For the latest performance in our Tea House Chamber Music Series, the musicians of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra present two works that explore the expressive and emotive power of the string quartet.
Bridging the past and the present, the performance celebrates the enduring musical legacy of Beethoven – one of the most prominent figures in the history of European classical music – and the innovative creative prowess of award-winning young Hong Kong composer Elliot Leung.
The featured works are Beethoven’s intricate and influential String Quartet in C-sharp minor, Op.131, the composer’s personal favourite quartet and one widely regarded as a late masterpiece, and Leung’s first String Quartet, a five-movement work reflecting the moods and qualities of cities and landmarks around the world.
This programme is co-presented by WestK and the HK Phil.

A fun and interactive musical for families featuring catchy jazz tunes and exciting adventures
To his dad, Jim has always been the well-behaved child. But he also has another hidden identity—Mischievous Boy, as he is easily the naughtiest student at school! One day while at home, he stumbles upon a jazz guitar, which is also their family heirloom. Fascinated by it, Jim picks up the guitar but accidentally breaks it! With his dad coming home soon, what should he do?
Join us to help Jim fix the guitar in the interactive musical Mischievous Boy. While we are on this adventurous problem-solving journey, we can enjoy catchy jazz songs written by music director Tsui Chin-hung and lots of fun dancing by an energetic cast. Along the way, we also meet new friends, including a grocer who sells him a second-hand cassette tape, a florist who has a good sense of rhythm, and a musician and a bird who teach him how to appreciate jazz music. With their help, can Jim restore his father’s beloved guitar?
