Biography

Dasom Baek is a composer, lecturer and performer of multiple traditional instruments including the daegeum, sogeum and danso (large and small bamboo transverse flutes), and saenghwang (reed mouth organ). She pursues modern music rooted in traditional Korean instrumental performance. A Certified Master of Korea’s Important Intangible Cultural Asset, no. 45, she is currently a PhD student at Seoul National University. Baek has performed a concerto with the KBS Traditional Music Orchestra and a solo concert at the National Gugak Centre in Seoul. Baek was a fellow of the Art Omi: Music programme in New York in 2019 and a showcase artist at the SXSW Festival 2021. She released her debut album Nothingness in August 2020. Her second album Mirror City is scheduled for a September 2023 release and it will incorporate more electronic elements to complement her traditional sounds.
