Lawrence Ku is a jazz guitarist, composer, and leader of a modern jazz ensemble. The ensemble has gone through different line-ups and instrumentations since its formation in 1997. For this concert, the performers are Ku (guitar), Fred Grenade (bass), and Zhitong Xu (drums). Stylistically, the ensemble has also undergone different changes over the past two decades. Their albums have won numerous awards, including the Best Instrumental Album at the 2015 Chinese Music Media Awards for their debut album Pictures, and earned nominations at the 2021 Golden Melody Awards for Best Instrumental Composition and Best Instrumental Recording Album for their second album Clarity.
Ku has collaborated with many renowned musicians from around the world, including Dee Dee Bridgewater, Laura Fygi, John Legend, Li Ronghao, and A-Lin. He has devoted himself to promoting jazz and guitar education in China for over 20 years.
