Li Xiaochuan is a jazz trumpeter, composer, and educator. He is currently an associate professor of jazz trumpet at the Department of Modern Instrumental Music and Percussion of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. Li has been named by CCTV as Top 10 Young Trumpet Players. His album Initial won Best Jazz Album at the first CMIC Music Awards and Best Instrumentalist at the first JZ Awards. Another album, The New Age, was selected as the Best Recording Album at the first JZ Awards.
Li graduated from the classical trumpet performance programme of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. He later studied at the University of North Texas in the US, becoming the first Chinese jazz trumpet player to receive a master's degree in jazz performance. In 2011, he participated in the Jazz Division of the National Trumpet Competition in the US and advanced to the finals. Li has been invited to perform at music festivals around the world, including the Echternach International Festival in Luxembourg, the Jazz Showcase in Hungary, and the Deep Ellum Arts Festival in the US. He has collaborated with international jazz musicians such as Pat Metheny, Eddie Gomez, Gast Waltzing and Billy Drummond.
