Eugenia Kim: Pain, Virtuality and Soma
    2 March 2023 | 7:00pm

In a presentation of two intertwined stories based on fictional and lived experiences, Hong Kong-based Korean artist and researcher Eugenia Kim shares her explorations of chronic pain, disability and virtuality. Opening with a tale from her work Radiant Soma, in which stone shamans absorb memories of pain from human movement data and release them as dancing lights, Kim shares how chronic illness has led her to use AI, VR and other digital tools to keep “moving” and creating when her own body cannot, and performs somatic movement designed to accommodate her pain and reduced mobility.

    Erica Scourti: Outer Voice
    3 March 2023 | 7:00pm

In this audio-visual lecture performance, Scourti explores the resonances of voice in the digital era through text-based collages made on her phone from a personal archive of images, photos and screenshots. Jointly narrated by an artificial duplicate of her own voice, as well as voice notes sent by friends, the performance looks at the materiality and connotations of the voice, and the use of personal archives in the telling of life-stories. Spoken in Greek and English and embracing mistranslations across language and media, Scourti also looks at the creative possibilities of miscommunication.

The Lecture Performances are presented as part of SerendiCity – a media arts festival showcasing new perspectives on art, urban environments, people and technology.
