    To celebrate the fifth anniversary of Xiqu Centre, on 20 and 21 January 2024, over 100 young Cantonese opera actors will participate in the performances of the new original Cantonese opera Fighting for the Country, bringing the vitality of the youth to the Grand Theatre stage.

     

    Sing Fai Cantonese Opera Promotion Association was founded with the mission to cultivate new Cantonese opera audiences and young talent. Featuring over 100 young actors aged between 3 and 21, its latest original production is a lively martial drama that celebrates the virtues of patriotism and respecting your teachers. With a captivating story, action-packed entertainment and educational themes, it is perfect for the whole family.

    Synopsis
    The country is in crisis as the prime minister turns to treason and frames the loyal marshal. Determined to defend their home against foreign invasion, citizens take matters into their own hands and leave no stone unturned to find the reclusive former army general Yang Zhong and military adviser Zhang Hu. With new leaders at the helm, the people rally together and march into battle to fight for their country.

    Sing Fai Cantonese Opera Promotion Association
    Established in 2008, Sing Fai Cantonese Opera Promotion Association is a Hong Kong-based non-profit arts organisation. With a particular focus on children and young people, the association is committed to promoting and preserving Cantonese opera by cultivating the next generations of audiences and performers. Since 2009, it has been under the leadership of artistic director Yeung Kim Wah, a renowned Cantonese opera director. The association currently runs six Cantonese opera classes designed for children and young people. These classes are attended by nearly 60 students with ages ranging from three to 21.

     

    Students of Sing Fai have participated in various Cantonese opera competitions and won numerous awards. In 2017, the students took part in a major performance during President Xi Jinping’s visit to the West Kowloon Cultural District, as part of the celebrations of the 20th anniversary of Hong Kong’s handover.

     

    In addition, the association is an active promoter of Cantonese opera overseas, having toured in countries including Canada, the United States and Singapore. It also frequently stages fund-raising performances for charitable organisations.

    Concessions

    Half price for senior citizens aged 60 or above, people with disabilities and a companion, CSSA recipients, full-time students. Ticket holders must present proof of eligibility on admission. Concession tickets are available on a first come, first served basis.

    Children under the age of 2 will not be admitted.
