Inspiring Positive Change in the Community Through Performing Arts
The Arts Impact Fellowship supports young artists, educators, researchers and arts administrators to develop pioneering research initiatives that inspire change, community engagement and audience building in Hong Kong. This year, awarded fellows will develop their projects into a public programme presented at West Kowloon’s 2024 festival for families.
Applications are now open for original practice-led initiatives designed to benefit families, with priority consideration given to those aimed at engaging underrepresented groups, such as ethnic minorities, people with disabilities, and groups with limited access to performing arts, during all stages of the project.
Aims of the 2023 fellowship:
- Support innovative projects that benefit families of different backgrounds and compositions, and make positive change through performing arts
- Encourage the development of community engagement programmes and practice-led initiatives related to performing arts
- Encourage interdisciplinary collaborations between artists and communities
- Cultivate community interest in performing arts, and expand the potential audience base for the performing arts industry in Hong Kong
Applications are welcome from artists, arts administrators, scholars, researchers and postgraduate students aged 40 or below who are keen to develop projects that inspire community change through performing arts. Only applications from individuals are accepted.
A maximum of two fellowships will be awarded by an assessment panel of representatives of West Kowloon Cultural District Authority and members of communities who are target beneficiaries of the shortlisted proposals.
Each successful fellow will receive HK$100,000 for conducting the projects and related pilot activities. A maximum of HK$20,000 for expenses incurred on project-related pilot activities and research (e.g. focus groups, workshops and pilot events) can be reimbursed. A budget of up to HK$200,000 will be provided for production of the final public programme.
During the project period, awardees are required to attend monthly progress meetings, and provide regular progress reports and an updated proposal for the final public programme, which they subsequently deliver at West Kowloon’s 2024 festival for families.
