随着香港在近代发展成为繁荣的贸易城市，中国艺术品的收藏也变得非常活跃。二十世纪中叶以来，私人收藏逐渐倾向对外展示，有赠予公共博物馆者，有设立私人博物馆者，亦有不时筹办本地及海外巡回展览者。这是首个回顾香港收藏史的大型展览，透过一百余件展品，细述香港一个多世纪的中国艺术收藏活动，同时勾勒本地博物馆发展的轨迹，并向一直为香港及海外观众弘扬中华文化精髓的收藏家、学者、博物馆工作者及其他各界有心人士致意。
