清初欧式火炮在亚洲已经普遍流传，满人虽擅长骑射，对于火器亦十分重视。康熙朝是中国火炮史的重要时期，不论在火炮知识和军事应用上都有突破性的发展。康熙帝是十分重视火炮的帝王，康熙十二年三藩之乱发生后，清军在耶稣会士南怀仁的协助之下铸造火炮，得以顺利平定叛乱。其后，清廷又多次自制各种欧式火炮应对战事，并加强八旗部队火炮的编装和操练，奠定大清帝国盛世的基础。
