Description
Boasting a blend of modern design and traditional Chinese sensibility, the Xiqu Centre provides an ideal setting for the exquisite sound of guqin, an ancient string instrument with a history spanning millennia. This December, two of Hong Kong’s foremost guqin societies will each stage two concerts at the Xiqu Centre, giving the audience an opportunity to enjoy performances from seasoned virtuosi and gain a deeper appreciation for the culture importance and sonic beauty of guqin.
Deyin Qin Society was founded by the disciples of the renowned poet and guqin performer Tsar Teh-yun. Titled “Elegant Reverberations”, its concerts star Tsar’s protégés Lau Chor-wah, Sou Si-tai and Tse Chun-yan, along with their own students. Together, two generations of artists will showcase their artistry and technique.
Meanwhile, Jinghe Qin Society’s founder Yao Gongbai, named an inheritor of the art of guqin as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage, will be joined onstage by a team of elite guqin players including Fung Tung, Sharon Cheung, Choi Wai-kwok, Qiu Shuang and Chen Zijin, for two concerts titled “Pure Harmonies”.
