The mission of the Xiqu Centre is to preserve, promote and develop the art of Chinese traditional theatre, to nurture the local form of Cantonese opera and to promote other forms of xiqu. To advance the legacies and traditions of Chinese traditional theatre we support artists to create new works and help nurture a new generation of local artists. Through performances, creation, education, research and exchange, we aim to expand the audience base and create a new platform for the contemporary development of the art form.

The Xiqu Centre is located on the eastern edge of the West Kowloon Cultural District, at the junction of Canton Road and Austin Road. Directly accessible from MTR Austin station, MTR Jordan station and the Express Rail Link Hong Kong West Kowloon station, it is also easy to reach by bus, minibus and taxi.

Freespace – Hong Kong’s new centre for contemporary performance in the heart of the West Kowloon Art Park – presents multi-genre performances and events, produces boundary-pushing collaborations, and promotes new ways of seeing and experiencing performance.
Partnering with emerging and established artists from Hong Kong and around the world, we nurture diverse creative voices and bring works that challenge and redefine the role of performing arts for our age.

Step 1
Kowloon Station
Exit from Kowloon Station Exit E4 or E5 and turn left
Austin Station
Due to road works around the Austin Station, we recommend you to take Exit B5 in Austin Station, then walk to Kowloon Station and take Exit E4 or E5 to start the route
Step 2
Walk 2 to 3 minutes to Nga Cheung Road and follow the road sign to West Kowloon
Step 3
Walk along Nga Cheung Road to the traffic light on the right (1 minute). Cross the road and walk towards the footbridge
Step 4
To access the footbridge, take the stairs or the lift
Step 5
Cross the walkway and take the first set of stairs down, or use the lift
Step 6
The West Kowloon park entrance is marked with a banner. Turn left after entering

Continue along the pavement

Turn right towards the typhoon shelter for boats and walk along the waterfront

Continue past the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority Project Site Office (the building in orange)

Continue along the West Kowloon Waterfront Promenade

Continue past the Hong Kong Palace Museum and walk for another 2 minutes

Proceed to the pavement by the trees and take the first trail on the left

Follow the trail to the Art Park’s Great Lawn

When you see the stairs to the footbridge, follow the path to the left

Walk under the footbridge

Continue until you reach the crossing

After crossing the road, turn right

Follow the pavement beside the CLP West Kowloon Cultural District substation

Continue on after crossing the road

Follow the marked route and continue for about 2 minutes
