    WKCDA Contractors Scoop Three Prizes at the 23rd Considerate Contractors Site Award Scheme Award Presentation Ceremony

     

    At the 23rd Considerate Contractors Site Award Scheme Award Presentation Ceremony, contractor of M+ Museum Project, Hsin Chong Construction Company Limited, received the Considerate Contractors Site Awards (CCSA) - Silver Award while the contractor of Foundation Works for Lyric Theatre Complex and Extended Basement, Gammon Construction Limited, won CCSA - Merit Award and Outstanding Environmental Management and Performance Awards - Merit Award in Non-Public Works category.

     

    Development Bureau has organised the Considerate Contractors Site Award Scheme since 1995 to promote a considerate attitude and good site safety, health and environmental practices for both Public Works and Non-Public Works sites. Starting from 2011, the Bureau and the Construction Industry Council has co-organised the Scheme.

    M+ Museum Project Team Wins 1st Place at the Lighthouse Club-Hilti Safe Project Team Award

     

    The M+ Museum project team led by the Authority triumphed at the Lighthouse Club-Hilti Safe Project Team Award 2017. The team consisting of the Authority, its main contractor, consultant and frontline workers won the first place after three rounds of judging.

     

    Presented annually since 2013, the Lighthouse Club-Hilti Safe Project Team Award recognises excellence of project teams in setting the highest standard for construction site safety.

    Engineering delegation visits M+ construction site

     

    On 20 May 2017, a delegation comprising members from Hong Kong Institution of Engineers and the Institution of Structural Engineers (United Kingdom) visited the M+ construction site.

    M+ contractors receives two prizes at the Construction Safety Forum and Award Presentation

     

    Construction contractors of M+ received two prizes at the Construction Safety Forum and Award Presentation held on 5 July 2017. Gammon Construction Limited, contractor in steels works, and Hsin Chong Construction Company Limited, main contractor, garnered Golden Prize in the Best Method Statement Award – Mega Truss (Steelwork) Construction and Bronze Prize in the Best Method Statement Award – Mega Truss (Others) Construction respectively.

     

    Construction Safety Forum and Award Presentation is jointly organised by the Occupational Safety and Health Council, Construction Industry Council, Labour Department, government departments, organisations, unions and associations to recognise efforts of contractors in enhancing occupational safety in construction sites.

    WKCDA scoops the Safety Performance Award
    at the 15th Hong Kong Occupational Safety and Health Award Presentation Ceremony

     

    The Authority’s quality site management effort has paid off as we recently earned a Safety Performance Award under Other Industries category for the first time of participation in the 15th Hong Kong Occupational Safety and Health Award Forum and Award Presentation Ceremony held on 5 September. The Safety Performance Award – Other Industries category evaluates nominees’ performance over the past three years. The number of entries this year has been doubled, which demonstrates a wider recognition for the importance of excellent safety practices.

     

    The Hong Kong Occupational Safety and Health Award aims to honour local organisations with outstanding performance in safety and health practice. It is organised by the Occupational Safety and Health Council, Labour Department, Development Bureau and various unions and associations. This year, there were 363 entries from 145 organisations competed for the awards in nine categories.

     

    The Authority always regards work safety as its number one priority. Since the start of construction of its first facility in September 2013, the overall WKCD accident frequency rate remains significantly better than similar organizations. We will continue enhancing the safety and health awareness among our staff and all contractors within WKCD.

    M+ Winning Design Team Members Garner The Lighthouse Club International Design for Safety Award

     

    Members of the M+’s winning design team, Simon Pickard and Susanne Sugiarto from Ove Arup & Partners HK, garnered the second prize of The Lighthouse Club International Design for Safety Award competition on 27 May 2016 for their submission relating to the M+ project.

    The Lighthouse Club recognises excellence in safety within the Hong Kong construction industry and launched a new International Design for Safety Competition in 2015. It aims to raise the awareness of the role of designer in helping the industry achieve zero fatalities and injuries. The competition required the participants to elaborate on 10 key initiatives taken during the project design stage to ensure safety during construction, operation and maintenance of the finished building.

     

    Xiqu Centre Contractors Receive Recognition in the Considerate Contractors Site Award Scheme

     

    The main contractor and winning design team of the Xiqu Centre took home two awards in the recent presentation ceremony held on 27 May 2016 for the 22nd Considerate Contractors Site Award Scheme (CCSAS). Our contractor Hip Hing Engineering Co., Ltd. received merit awards for non-public works stream under the categories of the Considerate Contractors Site Award (New Works) and the Outstanding Environmental Management and Performance Awards respectively. The Xiqu Centre winning design team, BTA & RLP Co., Ltd. was appreciated for their supervision of the winning contractor.

    CCSAS is a key programme of the Construction Safety Week co-organized by the Development Bureau and Construction Industry Council to raise awareness of safety on construction sites and promote good practices in safety, health and environmental aspects.

     

    WKCDA Attains Its First Lighthouse Club “Derek Smyth Safety Leadership Gold Award”

     

    The Authority attained its first Lighthouse Club “2017 Derek Smyth Safety Leadership Gold Award” in the Client Developer Category. The Award is an annual event for the industry to acknowledge the outstanding construction safety performance of awardees. Since 1990, the Lighthouse Club has organised an annual Safety Leadership Award to honour excellence in safety practices within the Hong Kong construction industry, and to recognise outstanding leadership in safety.

    Xiqu Centre Contractors Awarded in Labour Department’s Construction Industry Safety Award Scheme

     

    At a presentation ceremony on 6 March, our contractors and sub-contractor at the Xiqu Centre construction site received two major safety awards in the Construction Industry Safety Award Scheme 2015/2016. With site safety a prime consideration for any construction project, this is an excellent result. Main contractor Hip Hing Engineering Co Ltd. was awarded Silver Prize in the Building Sites – Private Sector category, while their subcontractor, Li Yu Sum Construction Engineering Company Limited, was awarded Gold Prize in the Building Sites – Subcontractors category.

    Occupational Health Award 2015

     

    At the recent Occupational Health Award 2015, Hip Hing Engineering Co Ltd has received an excellence award in the Prevention of Pneumoconiosis Best Practices category and a gold award in the Best Presentation Award category for the Xiqu Centre construction project in the West Kowloon Cultural District. The forum cum award presentation ceremony was held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on 15 December 2015.

    The Occupational Health Award was jointly presented by Occupational Safety and Health Council, Labour Department, Pneumoconiosis Compensation Fund Board and Occupation Deafness Compensation Board to honour local organisations that demonstrate best practices for work stress management, hearing conservation and prevention of Pneumoconiosis.
