The Tea House Theatre Experience in the Xiqu Centre will soon greet audience again with a newly launched programme starting from 9 July 2020.
The theme of the programme is ‘Stories of Life’, which includes excerpt from Cantonese opera performances of the classic, well-loved romance ‘Farewell’ from The Butterfly Lovers and The White Dragon Pass. The 90-minute programme will be performed by the talented young artists and musicians of the Xiqu Centre’s Tea House Rising Stars Troupe cultivated by renowned Cantonese opera actor and Artistic Curator and Director Law Ka-ying.
The programme promises to be a unique audio and visual experience for audience. In light of the ongoing COVID-19 situation, theatregoers will experience the performance with a special seating arrangement, while capacity control will be implemented in the Tea House Theatre. The tea and dim sum experience will temporarily be suspended, but patrons will get a complimentary drink after the show. Temperature checks will be conducted and hand sanitizer will be available at venue entrances. Patrons are required to wear masks at all times within the venue.
A 15% discount will be offered to all Tea House Theatre Experience tickets for shows in July. Tickets are available for public sale from 17 June 2020. Moreover, in appreciation of the vital support provided by Hong Kong’s medical staff and frontline support during the pandemic, a 50% discount on standard tickets and other exclusive privileges will be offered to the sector from 17 June 2020 to 30 June 2021. In addition to the Tea House Theatre, other performing arts venues and facilities in the Xiqu Centre and Freespace have also reopened. Enhanced hygiene measures and 50% seating capacity will also be introduced to ensure the safety of the public, audience and staff members. Meanwhile, a 50% hire charge reduction will be offered until 30 September 2020. The Authority will comply with the Government’s latest public health measures and will continue to review the situation and adjust venue and programme arrangements accordingly.

About the Xiqu Centre
The Xiqu Centre at the West Kowloon Cultural District is the first landmark performing arts venue. It acts as the eastern gateway to the District. Specifically built for performances of Chinese traditional theatre, the Xiqu Centre is designed to conserve, promote and develop the art of xiqu. It will also provide a centre for the production, education and research of this unique art form. Xiqu Centre was selected as one of TIME Magazine's 2019 World's Greatest Places.
