West Kowloon Cultural District Presented at the Berlin Aedes Architecture Forum

“Constructing Culture - Hong Kong’s West Kowloon Cultural District” Exhibition on 26 May – 13 July, 2017 at the Aedes Architecture Forum in Berlin, Germany
 

The West Kowloon Cultural District Authority (WKCDA) is currently co-presenting the exhibition “Constructing Culture - Hong Kong’s West Kowloon Cultural District” with the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office at the Aedes Architecture Forum in Berlin, Germany. The exhibition showcases the latest development of the West Kowloon Cultural District (WKCD) project to an international audience.
 

The exhibition was formerly opened by Mr Duncan Pescod, CEO of the WKCDA, Ms Betty Ho, Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Berlin; and Ms Kristin Feireiss founder of Aedes. Prior to the opening ceremony, a moderated talk was held featuring Mr Pescod, Mr Martin Biewenga, Architect of West 8 Urban Design & Landscape (design consultants for the Art Park), Mr Eric Schuldenfrei, Associate Professor at the University of Hong Kong, and Mr Earle Briggs, Lead Architect of Bing Thom Architects, designers of the Xiqu Centre.
 

The key focus of the exhibition is on the major architectural facilities that have been designed to date, how they sit within the wider context of the public space, and how they adhere to the district’s design principles and overall development plan.
 

In addition to showcasing new models of the Xiqu Centre and M+, both of which are currently under construction and expected to open in 2018 and 2019 respectively, the exhibition also features renderings, plans and sections of these buildings presented together with the Lyric Theatre Complex, Freespace, Art Park, and the proposed Hong Kong Palace Museum. Besides these venues, the exhibition also provides information on the main design principles applied across the district, its local and regional connectivity and its internal wayfinding strategy. This public exhibition runs from now to 13 July, 2017.
