West Kowloon Cultural District makes debut appearance at the Flower Show and launches Tree App for Nursery Park

The West Kowloon Cultural District (WKCD) is pleased to announce its debut participation in the Hong Kong Flower Show 2017 held at the Victoria Park from 10 to 19 March.  Showcasing a miniature version of the WKCD, the installation offers visitors a striking visual experience while allowing the public the chance to interact with the display through the application of modern multi-media tools and old fashioned bicycle power.
 

Decorated with brilliantly coloured flowers, fragrant herbs, plants and shrubs, the WKCD entry replicates the exciting development of the various venues in the District – including the future Art Park, the Xiqu Centre, Freespace and the M+ building. This meticulously designed installation also reflects the West Kowloon Cultural District’s determination to create a vibrant, welcoming and engaging public park and cultural space for all.
 

For those who have yet to visit the District, illustrated poster boards and video screens with information about the venue designs and future programmes provide an overview of this fast developing art hub. By scanning QR codes on the exhibition boards, visitors will be able to discover more about the District and its development. One of the district’s most popular elements  -  SmartBike, the bike hire scheme that visitors can use to tour the scenic routes of Nursery Park and the West Kowloon promenade, makes an appearance within the display as members of the public are invited to use bicycle power to light up the M+ building

In addition to designing the landscape to display the future WKCD, many interactive elements have been incorporated into this installation to feature the dynamic, enthralling and eventfulness characteristics of the District. For all visitors of the Flower Show, the WKCD flower display promises to be a picture-perfect and fun attraction they will not want to miss,” said Mr Jason Teo, Senior Manager, Landscape and Urban Design of WKCDA.
 

Spring is the best season for exploring nature and there is no better to start this adventure than at the WKCD. Its Nursery Park houses over 100 species of trees and plants. Now with the launch of a pilot West Kowloon Tree App visitors can get to know about them simply by scanning the QR codes attached to the plants in the District, to attain a wealth of knowledge about individual trees such as their characteristics, habitat, seasonal changes and the various ways to identify these species.
 

In addition, the public can use the App to register for the hugely popular “Guided Tree Tours and Workshops”, check the opening hours and plan their visit, as well as get tips on gardening and plant care. The App will also keep users abreast with the latest developments in the District. This pilot programme will lead to future expansion to cater for the future Art Park by adding more features and content in the coming year.
 

This pilot Tree App builds the on popularity of our guided tree tours and upon the success of our multi award winning M+ Sigg Collection App and Freespace Happening App and provides a dynamic and interactive way for the public to appreciate and understand more about the plants within the District. By learning about the more about the trees and plants in the Nursery Park, we hope we can encourage people to take a closer look around them.” said Mr Kingsley Jayasekera, Director of Marketing and Customer Experience of WKCDA.
 

Themed “Blossoms of Love”, the Hong Kong Flower Show 2017 showcases rose as its spotlight flower and Hong Kong as a beautiful city of love. The installation combines lighting effects, 3D effects and multi-media.
