The West Kowloon Cultural District Authority (WKCDA or the Authority) welcomes the measures announced by the Chief Executive in his “2022 Policy Address” to promote and support Hong Kong’s development into an international cultural metropolis and an East-meets-West centre for international cultural exchange.
Mr Henry Tang Ying-yen, Chairman of the Board of WKCDA, said, “I am pleased that the Chief Executive announced in his first Policy Address to set up the Culture Commission comprising industry leaders to map out the Blueprint for Arts and Culture and Creative Industries Development to enhance the ecosystem of the industry. Together with the 10-year development blueprint for arts and cultural facilities to be mapped out by the Government, the host of new measures put forward in the Policy Address to further the development of arts and culture in Hong Kong underscores the HKSAR Government’s unwavering commitment to fulfilling the mission under the National 14th Five-Year Plan to develop Hong Kong as an East‑meets‑West centre for international cultural exchange.”
“In particular, the Authority is grateful to the Chief Executive for providing support to WKCDA and arts groups to nurture more arts and cultural talents through internships, and to develop Hong Kong into a regional centre for arts conservation and restoration through collaboration between the Government and WKCDA, both of which are instrumental to the long-term, sustainable development of the arts and cultural sector in Hong Kong. The Authority also welcomes the establishment of the Mega Arts and Cultural Events Fund to attract and support the staging of more international arts and cultural events in Hong Kong and foster East‑meets‑West international cultural exchange.”
With the support from the Government, the Authority will no doubt leverage its unique strengths and potentials, including its world-class cultural facilities, the expertise and capabilities of our professional teams, excellent exhibitions and programmes that embrace the best of eastern and western cultures, as well as its strong connections with the international and Mainland cultural institutions, with a view to developing WKCD into Asia’s leading cultural precinct and a platform for promoting Chinese arts and culture to the world.
