The West Kowloon Cultural District Authority (WKCDA) held a symbolic vine planting ceremony at the Nursery Park of the West Kowloon Cultural District (West Kowloon) yesterday to mark the commencement of the vineyard project.

Mr Henry Tang, Chairman of the WKCDA Board, said that the planting marks the start of a process to investigate the possibility of installing a waterfront vineyard in West Kowloon with advice from domaine owners in Bourgogne, France. He said, “With this development, Hong Kong will have a unique vineyard set against the breathtaking backdrop of Victoria Harbour. Rows of vines with magnificent views of Victoria Harbour and Hong Kong skyline in the background will be a very good Instagram moment for visitors.” The vineyard will be located on the top of the View Terrace within the Art Park and near to the harbour.

Starting with Pinot Noir, WKCDA will follow its usual practice to test out vines of a few grape varieties, including Chardonnay and Merlot, at the Nursery Park. Subject to the adaptation to the terroir at West Kowloon, the vines will be transferred permanently to the Art Park.
