Press Statement from the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority

The West Kowloon Cultural District Authority (WKCDA) notes the press release issued by The Chinese Artists Association of Hong Kong (Barwo) on the Authority’s recent announcement on the appointment of the Artistic Director, Performing Arts. 
 

The Xiqu Centre will be the first major performing arts venue to be completed in the West Kowloon Cultural District.  In order to prepare for the opening of the Xiqu Centre, a Head of Xiqu is being openly recruited and will be an integral part of the artistic team. The Head of Xiqu will join the Head of Theatre, Head of Dance and Artistic Associate of Music. Collectively, they will support the new Artistic Director.
 

In addition, the Xiqu Centre Advisory Panel has been established to advise WKCDA on the vision and mission and mode of governance for the Xiqu Centre as well as to give professional advice on operation, venue hiring, nurturing and training of Chinese opera artists, local community arts education and partnerships with stakeholders for the Xiqu Centre. As a further measure, the appointment of artistic advisors is also being finalised and will be announced shortly. 
 

Over the past six years, Barwo has been a good partner of WKCDA in staging various successful xiqu programmes and they have been fully informed about the Xiqu Centre development. WKCDA will continue to work closely with Barwo. The priority of the Artistic Director will be to meet the stakeholders as soon as she takes up her appointment on 23 October 2017.
 

WKCDA has a positive recruitment policy intended to ensure that the most suitable people are employed to work in the Authority. The open recruitment of the Artistic Director was carried out through a recruitment board comprising senior Authority staff and Board members. Outside recruitment agents were used to ensure that all possible candidates are considered. Recruitment advertisements were publicised in the press locally and overseas as appropriate.
