The West Kowloon Cultural District Authority (WKCDA) welcomes the reappointment of Mr Henry Tang Ying-yen as Chairman of the Board of WKCDA by the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR). His new term will commence on 1 October 2023 for a period of two years.

In his former capacity as the Chief Secretary for Administration of the HKSAR Government, Mr Tang became the founding Board Chairman of WKCDA from 2008 to 2011. He was appointed by the Chief Executive as the first non-official Board Chairman on 1 October 2017, with reappointments in 2019 and 2021. Under Mr Tang’s unwavering leadership, the West Kowloon Cultural District (WKCD) has opened two highly anticipated world-class museums, M+ and the Hong Kong Palace Museum in the past two years, in the midst of the pandemic. Both museums have received widespread acclaim and attracted a large number of local, mainland, and global visitors. Together with the Xiqu Centre, Freespace, and the outdoor venues offering a diverse range of world-class cultural and artistic activities, WKCD has now emerged as a new cultural landmark garnering global attention.

Mr Tang said: “I have enjoyed tremendous support from all sides since I re-joined WKCDA six years ago and I thank the Chief Executive for the opportunity to continue steering WKCD through this exciting new stage of development. As the pandemic is over, I am confident that the arts and cultural facilities in WKCD, which integrate both traditional and modern, Chinese and Western elements, will provide unique and inspirational experience to our visitors. We are fully committed to realising our vision of building WKCD into a cultural and artistic hub that brings together art enthusiasts from both the local and global communities. By judicious use of land assets and strategic commercial initiatives, we aim to establish the long-term financial sustainability of WKCDA, thereby continually enriching Hong Kong's cultural landscape and building WKCD as an international arts and cultural hub.”

The coming two years will mark an exciting new chapter in the development of WKCD. Under Mr Tang’s leadership, WKCDA is committed to building upon its achievement and fulfilling its mission as an international cultural hub, thereby continuing to make significant contributions to the future development of Hong Kong.
