Mr Henry Tang Ying-yen appointed as new Chairman of the Board of the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority

The West Kowloon Cultural District Authority (WKCDA) welcomes the appointment of the Honourable Henry Tang Ying-yen, GBM, GBS, JP as Chairman of the Board of WKCDA by the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong SAR.


Mr Tang, who will assume the Board Chairmanship on October 1, 2017, served as the founding Board Chairman of WKCDA between 2008 and 2011, during which time WKCDA achieved significant progress in the planning of the West Kowloon Cultural District (WKCD) including the organisation of a three-stage public engagement exercise for the preparation of a proposed Development Plan for WKCD.


Mr Tang said, “I am deeply grateful to the Chief Executive for appointing me as Chairman of the Board of WKCDA. WKCD is the most important cultural investment of Hong Kong. I had the privilege to lead WKCD through its early stages of development. As WKCD has progressed from the planning phase to the operation phase, I eagerly look forward to working closely with the fellow members of the Board to achieve the vision and mission of WKCD.”


Mr Duncan Pescod GBS, JP, Chief Executive Officer of WKCDA, said, “We would like to express our gratitude to the incumbent Chairman the Honourable Matthew Cheung Kin-chung for his guidance and support during the past eight months, and leading the Authority in taking forward many key tasks, including the consultation on the Hong Kong Palace Museum project and the signing of the Collaborative Agreement with the Palace Museum, which was an important milestone in the implementation of the project.  As founding Chairman of the Board, Mr Tang has deep understanding of the vision of the WKCD project.  The WKCDA team and I look forward to working with Mr Tang to realise the vision set for WKCD.”
