    The West Kowloon Cultural District Authority (WKCDA) announced today that it has awarded the Main Contract for the Hong Kong Palace Museum (HKPM) building to China State Construction Engineering (Hong Kong) Limited. The Main Contract includes the construction of the entire HKPM building complex. Designed by Rocco Design Architects Limited, the HKPM building superstructure will begin construction in April 2019 and is expected to be completed around end of 2021.
     

    Located at the western tip of the WKCD, the HKPM will be a museum dedicated to showcasing the exquisite artefacts from the Palace Museum’s collections and collaborates with other museums and cultural institutes in such aspects as research, exhibition, education and public programmes. The museum comprises 7 600 square metres of gallery space for standing and special exhibitions. Through different themes related to world civilisation and Chinese culture, collections of the Palace Museum including imperial artefacts, ancient Chinese Art and historical documents will be displayed. Other museum facilities include a 400-seat lecture theatre, activity rooms, a restaurant and a shop.
