    The West Kowloon Cultural District Authority (WKCDA or the Authority) announced that the Board of WKCDA has appointed Mr Bernard Charnwut Chan as the new Chairman of the Board of M Plus Museum Limited (M+ Board), a subsidiary wholly-owned by the Authority, for a term of two years from 1 April 2022 to 31 March 2024.

     

    In addition, the Authority announced that the Board of WKCDA has reappointed Mr Alan Lau Ka-ming and Dr Uli Sigg as members of the M+ Board. Mr Alan Lau Ka-ming is also appointed as the new Vice Chairman of the M+ Board.

     

    The Board of WKCDA has also appointed the following new members to the M+ Board:

     

    • Ms Anita Fung Yuen-mei
    • Mrs Christine Ip Yeung See-ming
    • Mr Paulo Pong Kin-yee
    • Mr Neil Shen Nan-peng

     

    The terms of the above appointments or reappointments are from 1 April 2022 to 31 March 2024.

     

    After years of efforts in planning, construction and preparation, last year saw the grand opening of M+, which has now entered into the operational and business development stage. Mr Henry Tang, Chairman of the Board of WKCDA, said, ‘Mr Chan has served on the Board of WKCDA since 2016 and has a profound understanding of the development and vision of the District. He has also served as the Chairman of the Board of Hong Kong Palace Museum Limited since 2018. Under his leadership, the preparation and construction of the Hong Kong Palace Museum have been progressing well despite the tight schedule and numerous challenges. This has demonstrated his commitment to the District’s development. I would like to thank Mr Chan for taking on the role of M+ Board Chairman at this important juncture to lead the museum’s development to the next stage.’

     

    Mr Tang also expresses profound gratitude to the retiring Chairman of the M+ Board, Mr Victor Lo, ‘Mr Lo led the development of M+ for over 15 years. He was the Convenor of the Museums Advisory Group under the Consultative Committee on the Core Arts and Cultural Facilities of the West Kowloon Cultural District and a member of the WKCDA Board. He has made tremendous contributions to the M+ project at various stages, from conceptual design, construction, to establishing the museum’s professional team and collections. Thanks to his leadership and commitment over the years, M+ has laid a solid foundation as Asia’s first global museum of contemporary visual culture.’ Mr Tang also expressed gratitude to the retiring Vice Chairman, Mr Vincent Lo, and outgoing members of the M+ Board for their significant contributions.

     

    The WKCDA Board is confident that M+ would scale new heights under the leadership of the new Board Chairman and with the wide-ranging experience and expertise of the incumbent and new members of the M+ Board.

     

    M Plus Museum Limited is one of WKCDA’s wholly-owned subsidiaries. The M+ Board is responsible for formulating the vision and mission, as well as the strategies, policies and guidelines in relation to museological matters and professional standards of M+’s operations.
