Appointment of the Xiqu Centre Advisory Panel under West Kowloon Cultural District Authority

The West Kowloon Cultural District Authority (WKCDA) announced the reappointment of seven members to the Xiqu Centre Advisory Panel for a two-year term from 1 April 2019 to 31 March 2021. The Panel members being reappointed are:
 

• Dr Frankie YEUNG Wai-shing (Chairman)
• Dr Estella CHAM LAI Suk-ching
• Mrs Eva CHENG LI Kam-fun
• Miss Candice LEUNG Wai-yee
• Mr Danny LI Chi-kei
• Mr WAN Man-yee
• Mr YUEN Siu-fai
   

The WKCDA also announced the appointment of four new members to the Panel. The tenure of new Panel members is:
 

• Dr LEE Siu-yan (from 1 May 2019 to 31 March 2020)
• Ms NG May-ying (from 1 April 2019 to 31 March 2020)
• Mr SE-TO Yok (LOONG Koon-tin) (from 1 April 2019 to 31 March 2020)
• Ms YIP Chung-man (from 1 April 2019 to 31 March 2020)
   

Mr Henry Tang, Chairman of the Board of the WKCDA, expressed his gratitude to all Panel members, including retired members Prof Andrew CHAN Chi-fai, Dr Liza WANG Ming-chun, Prof YU Siu-wah and Mr Danny YUNG Ning-tsun for their support and contribution to the Xiqu Centre.
 

Working closely with the Performing Arts Committee, the Xiqu Centre Advisory Panel is responsible for giving professional advice on strategy and policy development relating to the operation of the Xiqu Centre, as well as talent development, arts education and partnership arrangements to allow the Xiqu Centre to fulfil its vision and mission. The first meeting of the Xiqu Centre Advisory Panel for the current term will be held on 8 May 2019 and the full list of Panel members is at Annex.
 

The total audience for opening programmes in the Xiqu Centre was over 58,000 and the percentage of ticket sales for programmes in the Grand Theatre, Tea House Theatre and the Guided Tours was 95% or above. The bookings for the Grand Theatre from May 2019 to March 2020 have already reached 75% of the capacity, and are expected to increase further.

About the Xiqu Centre
The Xiqu Centre at the West Kowloon Cultural District is the first landmark performing arts venue. It acts as the eastern gateway to the District. Specifically built for performances of Chinese traditional theatre, the Xiqu Centre is designed to conserve, promote and develop the art of xiqu. It will also provide a centre for the production, education and research of this unique art form.
