73rd Board Meeting of West Kowloon Cultural District Authority Held Today

The Board of the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority (WKCDA) held its 73^rd meeting today.
 

WKCDA’s Chief Executive Officer Duncan Pescod was pleased to report that the Xiqu Centre remains on schedule to achieve practical completion in September 2018. The M+ construction works have seen some slippage and the Main Contractor has been told in no uncertain terms about WKCDA’s concerns on the progress.
 

The Art Park and Freespace continue to progress smoothly with the significant growth of the soft landscaping in the last month. The foundation works of the Hong Kong Palace Museum continue to progress well.
 

For the Lyric Theatre Complex and relevant part of the integrated basement project, the excavation activity for the basement and underground road remains ahead of schedule. Mr Pescod reported that the foundation works for the Lyric Theatre Complex and Extended Basement in Zone 3B has recently received recognition for construction safety by winning two awards: the Gold Award of the Considerate Contractors Site Award (Non-Public Works) and the Silver Award of the Outstanding Environmental Management & Performance Award in the 24^th Considerate Contractors Site Award Scheme jointly presented by the Development Bureau and the Construction Industry Council.
 

On the artistic side, M+ presents In Search of Southeast Asia through the M+ Collections, its first exhibition to address the complex region of Southeast Asia in the building of its multidisciplinary collections, which is currently open at the M+ Pavilion until 30 September 2018.
 

The Xiqu Centre is the first landmark performing arts venue to open in the West Kowloon Cultural District. In preparation for its opening, WKCDA is recruiting docents to lead 60-minute guided tours of the Xiqu Centre, and share information about the architectural characteristics of the building, as well as the culture and stories behind the xiqu art form. The application deadline is 30 June 2018.
