Yang Yuntao joined Hong Kong Dance Company (HKDC) in 2002 as Principal Dancer and became its Artistic Director in 2013. Yang has received two Hong Kong Dance Awards for Outstanding Performance, and was named Best Artist (Dance) at the 2009 Hong Kong Arts Development Awards. In 2023, Yang was awarded a Medal of Honour in recognition of his contributions to the Hong Kong dance sector. He has choreographed a number of award-winning and critically acclaimed dance performances for HKDC, including Spring Ritual·Eulogy, The Legend of Mulan, Storm Clouds, L’Amour Immortel, Shan Shui: An Ode to Nature, Nezha: Untold Solitude and Convergence. He recently spearheaded an interdisciplinary research study on Chinese dance and martial arts traditions.
