Sham Chung-tat is a freelance theatre worker who graduated from The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts with a BFA in Theatre and Entertainment Arts, majoring in sound design. He is currently doing his postgraduate studies at the Berlin University of the Arts, majoring in sound studies and sonic arts. His creations focus on sound art and spatial audio compositions. In 2021, Sham was awarded the golden prize of the Europe’s Fifth Student 3D Audio Production Competition (Soundscape/Audio Drama) for his spatial audio composition What is Your Soundmark of the Year?. He has also exhibited at the Burning Man festival in Black Rock City in Nevada in 2022 and the Hong Kong Pavilion of Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space in 2023. He is a founding member of Hong Kong experimental arts groups Inspire Workshop and Paperback Sketch. He also regularly collaborates with On & On Theatre Workshop. Recent sound design work includes Best Wishes (2018), Ballads of Expulsion (2019), and On a New Day (2022). Recent directing work includes Executing the Theatre (2022).
