Professor Derek Collins has been the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Chair Professor of the Department of History of The University of Hong Kong since 2015. Before that, he was Associate Dean for Humanities and Professor of Greek and Latin at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He received his BA and MA from the University of California, Los Angeles and his PhD from Harvard University. A highly accomplished scholar originally specialised in the ancient Greco-Roman world, he has published work on literature, history, art, and religion. He has been awarded numerous grants and fellowships, including the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, to expand museum and conservation studies at The University of Hong Kong. He develops cultural projects and works with leading museums, galleries, private collectors, art professionals, and auction houses in Hong Kong and around the world. In the commercial art world, Dean Collins is a Senior Consultant to Phillips Auction House, Chairman’s Office, Asia, the leading global auction house for contemporary art.
