Mike Yip

Mike Yip is a composer and an improvisational and experimental musician. His work spans different cultures, traditions and genres, and is characterised by improvisational and experimental elements. Besides the electric guitar, he also uses effect processors and modular synthesisers for live performances.

Yip was trained in jazz guitar by renowned guitarist Eugene Pao and did his postgraduate studies in composition under Professor Chan Hing-yan’s supervision. He was a member of contemporary jazz group Mo-Men-T and electronic music group thisisthewaytheworldends, and an ensemble associate of the Hong Kong New Music Ensemble.
