Dr Sharon E. Shaffer is a former Executive Director of the Smithsonian Early Enrichment Center in Washington, DC, USA, where she established a national model in museum-based education for young children. She is the only educator ever to receive the Smithsonian Institution Secretary’s Gold Medal for Exceptional Service. Author of Engaging Young Children in Museums (2015), Object Lessons and Early Learning (2018), and International Thinking on Children in Museums: A Sociocultural View of Practice (2021), Dr Shaffer has a PhD in Social Foundations of Education and has taught for over a decade at the University of Virginia.
