Description
To accompany Lu Yang – DOKU, The Binary World at Freespace (7 – 9 October) we present a professional behind-the-scenes demonstration and sharing on the motion capture technology used in the performance.
The event is co-organised with Hong Kong-based digital production studio MetaObjects, who worked with Lu Yang to animate 3D digital avatars with the movements of live dancers, and presented by the studio’s technical director Andrew Crowe and artistic director Ashley Lee Wong. Demonstrating how motion capture, Xbox-controller-manipulated live audiovisuals and intercity networked collaboration was employed in Lu Yang’s work, they offer insight into the history, development and creative potential of motion capture technology, as well as current trends.
Targeted at students and professionals with an interest in the use of motion capture in the arts, the event offers participants first-hand experience of the technology in action, and explores how imaginative use of media technology and virtual avatars can create new types of hybrid viewing experiences. Participants will also have the opportunity to share and discuss ideas related to their own practice.
